General Mills Bakeries & Foodservice rECOGNIZES HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORTS OF THE Retail Bakery Industry Foundation

MINNEAPOLIS (Feb. 7, 2007) – In December, General Mills Bakeries & Foodservice recognized the work of the Retail Bakery Industry Foundation (RBIF) at the division’s national sales meeting in New Orleans.  Mark and Rhonda Atwood accepted the check on behalf of the Foundation and were commended for their tremendous fundraising efforts to rebuild and restock the more than 50 bakeries that suffered losses from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Mark is the chairman of the Foundation Board and Rhonda is president of The Deep South Retail Bakers.

General Mills Bakeries & Foodservice presented the RBIF with a check in the amount of $26,237, which totaled the funds that the division raised throughout the year in support of the Foundation’s hurricane relief efforts.

Last February, General Mills donated product and labor to make 500 King Cakes at The Bagel Shop, which is a popular bakery in New Orleans that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The king cakes were then sold to raise funds for the RBIF. Employees at General Mills’ world headquarters in Minneapolis also baked King Cakes and sold them to employees raising additional funds. General Mills also ran a promotion on its bakery mix, where the company donated $5 for every bag of Danish mix sold to bakeries across the country.
